The Foundation | Consolidate | Sustain development framework moves away from traditional training methods, which we know are ineffective, toward a model of sustained learning that shifts participants’ thinking, facilitating a positive change in how they show up at work, communicate, supervise, and collaborate with others.
Each element (Foundation, Consolidate, Sustain) in our learning modules is framed by adult learning principles (Knowles) and the 70:20:10 model (McCall et al), acknowledging and leveraging how adults learn more effectively.
Our approach encourages participants to shift from passive learners to actively engaging with workplace experiences as opportunities for reflection, deeper learning, and reinforcement of knowledge through practical application.
Each program has specified outcomes and learning objectives addressed within each of the core elements. Through expert facilitation and group and individual coaching, participants are encouraged and enabled to set clear learning goals and allocate time for self-directed learning.
Each program incorporates relevant departmental policies and procedures, into workshops, coaching, and mentoring.
Participants receive a workbook and learning resources they can reference well into the future.
We are flexible with our approach but in order to garner the full benefits of the foundation, sustain, consolidate approach we recommend something like this:
1. Foundation Element (F2F or Virtual) - Half-day (3-hour) workshop
Overview of topic fundamentals, draws on participant expertise, encourages reflection and sharing.
plus one hour of individual coaching
Confidential discussion of individual participant's strengths and challenges related to the workplace, exploring potential blockers to development and ways to address them.
2. Consolidate Element (Virtual) – Tools to support “on-the-job” or “near-to-job” learning. Additional coaching or mentoring can be provided.
3. Sustain Element (F2F or Virtual) - Half-day (3-hour) workshop
Recap topic fundamentals, address key learnings and any applications of learnings that have occurred since Workshop 1.
Facilitate discussion on ongoing reflection and application of fundamentals ‘on the job.' Additional coaching or mentoring can be provided.
